You're totally right, I also do the same, and holding a pint in my right hand does not give me the option to paw at it with my right unless I put my drink down. is there an out of the box way in the ask to flip the action bar menu options?

Good to see you blogging again!

I read Copyblogger regularly, and I find that helps my writing (and often my speaking, too). (http://www.copyblogger.com/blog)

For presentations, I find sometimes using the right tool will keep me from making "too many bullet" type mistakes. I avoid PowerPoint as much as possible, since it's built around the bullet-or-image concept. Lately I'm a huge fan of impress.js. (http://bartaz.github.com/impress.js)

Another fantastic rule to follow when building slides (or even e-mails) is to try to compose the message in E-Prime (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-Prime), a subset of English that does not contain the verb 'to be.' It forces sentences to be more direct about the subject at hand, as well as limiting their length.

I like the idea of a unified UI, but it's not just the right/left sided placement of action bar items that are bad. Placing them at the top is also bad. For those of us cursed with small hands, it's a stretch to reach the top of the screen on large phones. The convenient thing about the menu button was that it's at the bottom!

The one and only thing Windows Phone 7 got right was putting actions and overflow at the bottom and centered in the screen. That way it's convenient for either hand, no matter the hand size nor screen size.

The action bar paradigm looks nice on the screen, but it's not a good user experience at all.

I, for one, will not be supporting it in my apps. It just provides a bad user experience. The menu button was ugly, but it worked well.

I like the action bar, it fits with the Honeycombe pattern (thus people adopting it).
It does make more sense over the iOS top nav bar which annoyes me (i use iOS and Android)

I wouldn't stray away from the action bar, but having a setting to change the buttons around, it is of course a much better implementation, thanks for the idea!
